The National Park Service and association executive director, Steven Gonzales, spent the week of September 12th visiting sites along the trail being nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. NPS officials, Mike Taylor and Mike Elliott, flew into Austin and meet with Steven, and the group traveled east toward Nacogdoches for the first part of the trip.
The association is hosting its Annual Membership and Board Meeting in Bastrop on October 20th and 21st. The evening of the 20th will be a reception from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at Deep in the Heart Art Foundry, which is located at 405 South Jackson Street, Bastrop Texas 78602. The Annual Membership Meeting will take place on the 21st from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. It will be located at the Bastrop Opera House at 711 Spring Street, Bastrop Texas 78602. The Board Meeting and luncheon will take place down the street at Heritage Hall, which is located at 1020 Main Street, Bastrop Texas 78602. The Board Meeting will run from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Region 7 - Education Service Center and Association to Host El Camino Real Videoconference for Students
The Region 7 – Education Service Center and El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association are hosting the 2nd Annual El Camino Real de los Tejas Videoconference. Join us as we travel across Texas to learn about the oldest trail in the state, El Camino Real de los Tejas. Within this program, presenting sites will provide information on cities running along the trail including historical influences and events that have impacted the formation of the road. Remote sites can register to present on a city or are welcome to be a view only site. Please check out our website for details including a presentation toolkit, registration, and available times for presenting.

Please see the following link for a reception taking place on September 21st from 5 PM - 7 PM at the Benson Latin American Collection at the University of Texas at Austin. The reception will feature the photographic exhibit of the trail done by photographer Christopher Talbot. The exhibit is currently on display through the end of September.
