El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association awarded National Park Foundation Grant to Educate Students about the National Historic Trail!
El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association was selected as one of 49 national parks and trails participating in the 2012 America’s Best Idea program sponsored by the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. Inspired by the critically-acclaimed Ken Burns documentary The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, the America’s Best Idea grant program funds park projects designed to connect diverse, under-engaged populations throughout the United States with their national parks in innovative and meaningful ways.
The unveiling of the first-ever official National Park Service signs along El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail took place at Apache Pass in Milam County, Texas on October 8, 2012. The event featured several guest speakers including Lucile Estell and Steven Gonzales from El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association, Aaron Mahr, superintendent of the National Trails Intermountain Region of the National Park Service, and a formal unveiling of the signs by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association relies on the generosity of donors like you to help fulfill our mission and vision. Even a national treasure as significant as the Camino Real is under constant threat. Your donation can help us to protect, preserve, and promote the trail. Your donation or membership benefit the Camino everyday!
We also encourage you to share your enthusiasm and support for El Camino Real de los Tejas by giving a donation or membership as a gift for the holidays. There is no better way to spread the word about the trail then by family and friends sharing it with others. And remember that all donations and memberships are tax-deductible. So we encourage you to donate $5 or $10 today or to join as a member of our association. The trail belongs to all of us, so support it and share it with others to spread the cheer!
