South Texas Region
San Antonio / Goliad Region
- John William Helton Nature Park | October 17, 2026 | 8:00 AM Race Start – On El Camino Real Day, the Trail de Flores Chapter of El Camino Real de Los Tejas National Historic Association is partnering with Wilson County Adoption and Rescue Services (WCA&RS) to offer “Running Down a Dream”, a 5K race in John William Helton Nature Park along one of the few publicly accessible sections of our national historic trail. We are excited to highlight our trail and its history while helping to produce this fundraiser event for the WCA&RS animal shelter. It will have two heats: a tradition 5K trail run and the first ever Canicross race on our trail system! Canicross, at its most basic, is a trail run that involves competing as dog/human teams. One dog and one human team up and run (or walk) the course together. Awards, t-shirts and finisher medals will be provided to both the traditional trail runners and to the Canicross teams. We hope you can support this event by signing up to participate, volunteer, or just make a donation.
- Step Back in Time at the Spanish Governor’s Palace | October 17, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM – Travel back through San Antonio’s colonial history on El Camino Real de los Tejas Day at the Spanish Governor’s Palace! Come walk through history and discover the story of the historic trail that connected Spanish settlements across Texas. Learn how San Antonio de Béxar and the Spanish Governor’s Palace played an important role in the military, government, and daily life of this historic frontier. Discover the Camino. - Follow the Trail at the Heritage Village Museum of Handmade Furniture | October 10, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM – the Museum will be hosting a celebration for their official designation as an interpretive site along the trail. Visit their facebook page here for more information and registration.
Brazos Region
- Milam County Historical Museum | October 17, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM – There will be an informational table and an interactive demonstration off and on throughout, led by our Rancheria Grande Chapter President, Paula Sisco and Milam County Historical Commission co-member Randy Billingsley. Randy will be dressed up demonstrating life in the Old West living in Cameron and Milam County in that time.
- Walk the Ranchería Grande | September 15th reservations open – in Gause, Texas, the walk opens on Sept. 15th for this next season, so make your reservations for El Camino Real Day to experience this small part of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail that passes through a portion of the Ranchería Grande area on El Camino Real Day! The walk is 2.2 miles round trip. All the trails are natural and of moderate difficulty to walk on, so watch out for holes, sticks, snakes, and wildlife.
