Association’s Annual Meeting sees Change in Board of Directors

By November 17, 2016No Comments

The 2016 annual meeting was notable because it signified the end of an era and the beginning of another. 2016 witnessed the last of the original board of directors terming out, and the election of nearly half of the board as first time representatives!

Back in 2010, when the association’s bylaws were rewritten, the board of directors instituted term limits on board service. The term limits allow for board members to serve for up to three consecutive two year terms, for a total of six years of service. Consequently, the first set of original board members termed out in October 2015 and the last of the original board termed out this October. The original board members who recently termed out are Dr. Lucile Estell, Chief Rufus Davis, Carl Mica, and Duke Lyons. Long-time board member, Irene Ramos also termed out in October.

Taking the place of the original board are new representatives that hail from the Rio Grande to Natchitoches! Our South Texas region has two new board members in Frank “Chip” Briscoe and Nancy Deviney. Our East Texas/Caddo Region also has two new members in Roger Holt and Steven Fullen. And three At-Large positions were filled by Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark, Lynn F. Young, and Lucinda Freeman. All new members bring with them various strengths and experiences that will greatly aid in the governance of the association.

We would like to thank all former board members for their service (and we would like to let them know that we aren’t going to let them get away that easy!) and we welcome all new board members to the organization!
